Arlula – Software Engineering internship

Arlula is changing the way earth observation data is utilised and managed. Earth observation data, such as satellite imagery, is applied across various industries like climate management, agriculture, mining and defence, allowing people to better understand changes to our planet as seen from space.

We are currently seeking a final year/recent graduate to join us as a software engineering intern working on our geospatial data management platform. As part of our team, you will learn about the space and earth observation industry, develop your software and programming skills by working with our multidisciplinary team to design and build new features, and apply best practice as you help grow our software platform. 

As part of our internship program, we will provide educational opportunities to help you upskill in areas such as:

  • Full stack development with Go and Typescript,
  • Software design and delivery,
  • Core geospatial and imagery analysis concepts and techniques,
  • Collaboration as part of an agile engineering team in a fast paced startup environment. 

With mentorship from our team, you will lead a project that introduces you to earth observation concepts and be directly involved in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from the design, building, testing and release of the software.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop your teamwork and collaboration skills in an employment environment
  • Learn API design concepts and best practices through design and implementation
  • Learn about web UI development modalities like Server Side Rendering
  • Develop your technical communication skills, including written and verbal methods

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Qualifications:  

This position is to support those wanting to develop as software engineers in the space and/or earth observation sectors.

Candidates must have software development experience, but may be from any qualification in the physical sciences, engineering disciplines or computer science/software engineering faculties.

Skills and Experience: 

Final year students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

We are happy to support students completing industry/workplace placement requirements as part of this programme.

Required:

  • Experience with at least 1 statically typed programming language
  • Strong programming concepts foundation
  • Exposure to common systems architecture concepts
  • Interest in startups/small enterprise

Optional:

  • Interest in the new space and/or earth observation sectors
  • Knowledge and/or experience of imaging science or image processing
  • Experience with TypeScript or the Go programming language
